Nalknad Palace – Refuge of Kings

A Palace located just a few kms from the town Napoklu in Virajpet Taluk of Kodagu District in Karnataka State which built in 1792-94. King Chikka Veerarajendra was the last refuge of this palace and last king of Kodagu too. This palace is like a large old home with a common architecture and presently protected by the Government of Karnataka and planned to make a major tourist place by converting it to Museum to display ancient crafts and weapons. Nalkunad palace situated between lush green forest and Coffee plantation, some tourist places accessible easily from this palace.

The palace was the refuge of many kings, Hyder Ali captured Kodagu in 1780, but people of Kodagu angry on the takeover of Kodagu and rose against him in 1782 AD and they managed to proclaim their independence. The Palace was used by Chikka Veerarajendra before British took control of Kodagu.
